Tech writing project portfolio

Turning complex products into clear, usable information

I create technical documentation that helps people understand software, complete complex tasks, and solve problems independently.

My experience covers user guides, administrator documentation, developer resources, API documentation, implementation guidance, release content, and product communications for SaaS, enterprise, and regulated software.

As a native English technical writer with an extensive software quality assurance background, I combine precise communication with the ability to understand complex applications, investigate how they work, and identify where users are likely to encounter difficulty.

The following projects represent selected highlights from my technical writing career.

tick@lab Laboratory Information Management System

Long-term product documentation for complex laboratory software

Since 2020, I have served as the sole technical writer for tick@lab, a comprehensive laboratory information management system used to support complex scientific and operational workflows.

I am responsible for documenting the product across successive releases and translating evolving functionality into clear information for users, administrators, and technical audiences.

The role requires close collaboration with developers, product specialists, and other subject-matter experts. I independently investigate new and changed functionality, determine what users need to know, and maintain documentation as the application evolves.

Key contributions

  • Serve as the sole technical writer responsible for the product documentation

  • Create and maintain documentation across multiple software releases

  • Document complex laboratory, administrative, and configuration workflows

  • Produce content for users with different roles and levels of technical knowledge

  • Work directly with developers and subject-matter experts to clarify functionality

  • Review new features and identify their impact on existing documentation

  • Restructure and revise content to improve clarity, consistency, and findability

  • Create annotated screenshots and supporting visual material

  • Maintain consistent terminology, style, and presentation across the documentation

  • Verify documented procedures directly within the application

Project value

My long-term involvement provides continuity across releases and ensures that the documentation develops alongside the product rather than becoming a disconnected record of individual features.

By combining technical writing with hands-on software investigation, I can identify unclear workflows, missing information, and inconsistencies before they reach the user.

exocad and Align Technology

Regulated documentation for dental CAD software

From 2016 to 2024, I produced and maintained technical documentation for sophisticated dental CAD applications at exocad and, following its acquisition, Align Technology.

The software operated within an FDA-regulated medical-device environment governed by formal quality-management processes. Documentation therefore had to be accurate, controlled, traceable, and maintained in accordance with established quality standards.

My work covered internal quality documentation, embedded product assistance, and customer-facing content. It combined traditional technical writing with docs-as-code practices and close collaboration with development, QA, product, and regulatory stakeholders.

Key contributions

  • Produced regulated documentation supporting FDA-controlled medical-device software

  • Authored test-case protocols, runbooks, standard operating procedures, and other controlled documentation

  • Created and maintained content using LaTeX, Markdown, and XML

  • Maintained embedded online help stored alongside the application source code

  • Managed documentation through Git-based docs-as-code workflows

  • Used Git actions and repository processes to review, update, and publish documentation

  • Authored user guides, release notes, and customer-facing product documentation

  • Worked in accordance with ISO 9001 quality-management standards

  • Owned and maintained the company’s technical writing standards

  • Established consistent terminology, style, structure, and documentation practices

  • Served as the primary English-language consultant for technical documentation and customer communications

  • Collaborated with international development, QA, product, and regulatory teams

Project value

My work helped ensure that both internal and customer-facing documentation met the accuracy and consistency requirements of a regulated software environment.

By combining technical writing expertise with hands-on QA knowledge and docs-as-code practices, I was able to support formal compliance requirements while keeping documentation closely aligned with the evolving product.

Signatrix AgeCheck

Technical and product communication for AI-supported retail technology

For Signatrix, I create English-language content for AgeCheck, an AI-assisted age-estimation solution designed for retail environments.

The product combines artificial intelligence, in-store hardware, local data processing, checkout integration, and administrative configuration. Communicating it effectively requires technical accuracy while remaining understandable to retailers, decision-makers, store personnel, and other non-specialist audiences.

My work includes translating complex product, architecture, privacy, and workflow information into clear, visually structured content.

Key contributions

  • Create customer-facing English content for the AgeCheck product

  • Translate technical concepts into clear language for non-specialist audiences

  • Explain AI-supported age estimation without overstating the technology

  • Develop workflow descriptions and supporting process diagrams

  • Communicate system architecture and integration concepts

  • Present privacy and data-processing information clearly and accurately

  • Structure content around customer questions, concerns, and purchasing decisions

  • Work with subject-matter experts to verify technical and product claims

  • Refine terminology and messaging for an international audience

  • Combine written content with diagrams, callouts, tables, and other visual elements

  • Provide native-English language review and editorial guidance

Project value

The resulting content helps prospective customers understand not only what AgeCheck does, but also how it fits into a retail environment, how customer interactions are handled, and how privacy has been considered within the product design.

My contribution bridges the gap between the underlying technology and the information required by commercial and operational decision-makers.

Additional technical writing engagements

My wider experience includes documentation for SaaS platforms, enterprise applications, developer tools, APIs, and regulated software products.

Depending on the project, my responsibilities have included:

  • User guides and online help

  • Administrator and configuration documentation

  • Installation and implementation guidance

  • Developer documentation

  • REST API documentation

  • Release notes and feature documentation

  • Process and workflow documentation

  • Technical sales and product content

  • Information architecture and content restructuring

  • Terminology and style-guide development

  • Screenshot creation and image annotation

  • Documentation reviews and quality assurance

  • Native-English editing and language consulting

  • Collaboration with distributed and international teams

My approach

Good technical documentation begins with understanding the product and the people who use it.

I do not simply rewrite specifications or reproduce interface labels. I investigate the software, follow the complete user journey, clarify uncertainties with subject-matter experts, and organize the resulting information around real tasks and questions.

My background in quality assurance is particularly valuable here. It allows me to test procedures while documenting them, recognize inconsistencies, anticipate likely user errors, and identify areas where either the documentation or the product itself could be improved.

The result is documentation that is technically accurate, clearly structured, and genuinely useful.

Need clear, reliable technical documentation?

I am available for freelance technical writing, documentation modernization, release documentation, developer content, and short, medium, or long-term documentation projects.

Whether you need documentation for a new product, support for an upcoming release, or help bringing an existing documentation set under control, I can quickly understand complex software and turn it into information your users can work with.
